Trevor Lunch Review IV
By Tyler Melwani
In my 12 years of eating Trevor’s lunch, it hasn’t changed too much: “Pasta Mondays,” “Cheesy Pizza Fridays,” chicken nuggets on Halloween, and french toast during Passover...
However, I have noticed some changes in what Trevor is serving this year. For example, the strange lack of hot wings is noticeable. But besides that, Trevor lunches have improved. I assume the kitchen staff has taken the community’s requests from last year’s lunch survey.
One of these requests was likely for more Mexican food. In previous years, the kitchen only cooked Mexican food around twice per year, usually just on special occasions such as Cinco de Mayo. But this year, it has been served more frequently. Mexican food, in my opinion, is Trevor’s best lunch; in fact, I prefer Trevor’s Mexican food over the food at a lot of Mexican restaurants.
As for the changes to Trevor’s Italian cuisine, I have noticed that this year, Trevor has been serving a student-favorite pizza more frequently: BBQ chicken. And after a mysterious absence, Trevor’s delicious gnocchi have returned! I’m proud to say that after writing this year’s review, I believe I’ve covered all of Trevor’s most common lunches. Welcome to my final review of a week’s lunch at Trevor...
Today’s “Pasta Monday” featured a dish that is not served at Trevor very often: mac and cheese. I opted to add Sriracha sauce to my plate to up the flavor. When eaten by itself, the mac and cheese was decent, but the Sriracha sauce made it even better. Additionally, I tried the focaccia bread, as well as the other pasta which had broccoli, garlic, and olive oil. The bread was soft and moist, but I still prefer the breadsticks that are served on most Mondays. The pasta had a nice, light flavor. Overall, I would rate my lunch an 8/10. Both pastas were pretty good.
Today featured an unusual combination of Trevor lunches that are typically served on different days. I decided to try both the beef stew and fish fillets in addition to the potatoes and roasted carrots. In my opinion, today’s beef stew was pretty good compared to ones I’ve eaten in school in the past. The beef wasn’t dry, and there were a good number of carrots in the stew. The fish fillets, on the other hand, were too hot to eat. The potatoes and carrots were okay, but I prefer Trevor’s honey-glazed carrots. Overall, I would rate my lunch a 7/10. It was alright, but I wouldn’t say it was one of Trevor’s best lunches.
Trevor’s croissants used to be one of the only lunches that I didn’t eat, but recently, I’ve started to eat them. Unfortunately, today they were not as good as usual (though I don’t have a ton of past ones to compare them to). I thought they were simply too messy and cheesy, so it wasn’t a pleasant experience to eat them. As usual, I got the ham and cheese croissant, but perhaps I would have enjoyed the others more. Personally, I would have prefered a sandwich from the sandwich bar, which--like the croissant--could have included meat and cheese.I would rate my lunch a 5/10. I’m not a huge fan of Trevor croissants in the first place, and today’s meal didn’t change my mind about that.
This dish was exactly as I expected it to be. The chicken was alright, but it was dry and had no lemon flavor, despite its name. I think this problem could be solved if the servers poured more of the lemon sauce on our plates; there seems to be a lot of it under all the chicken. The couscous was good. I never get the pita bread anymore because I think it makes the whole meal too dry, and I’m still a little confused why they put the chicken and couscous on top of the pita if you order it. It’s too difficult to pick up and eat. I would rate my lunch a 7.5/10. This meal was the same as it always is, and I enjoyed it overall.
For Trevor pizza, I never know what I will choose to get until I actually see the slices. As I have described in depth in previous lunch reviews, a good pizza needs to have the perfect balance between the sauce and cheese. For Trevor pizzas, many of the slices tend to have a layer of cheese that is too thick; it is so thick that you don’t taste the tomato sauce at all. These are the slices I try to avoid when selecting a pizza. Today, the pepperoni pizza appeared to have the best sauce/cheese ratio, so that was the one I chose to get. I also got a slice of the BBQ chicken because it has historically been their best pizza in my opinion. Today, however, the pepperoni was much better than the BBQ chicken. The chicken slice had way too much cheese. The pepperoni, on the other hand, was one of the best Trevor pizza slices I have ever had. It highly exceeded my expectations for Trevor pizza with a perfect thickness and sauce/cheese ratio. I think that the perfect pepperoni slice is a great way to end my final Trevor lunch review. I would rate my lunch an 8.5/10. Although the BBQ chicken pizza wasn’t good, I was very impressed by the pepperoni pizza.
